NIHR’s Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities Convenes its 33rd Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities has convened its 33rd regular meeting, under the chairpersonship of D. Malallah J. Al-Hammadi, and membership of Mrs. Hala Ramzi Fayez, and Dr. Hooria Hassan.

The committee deliberated on the findings from several recent field visits it conducted, in line with its mandate and to enhance the oversight role of the national institution in safeguarding and advancing human rights, particularly in facilities such as rehabilitation centers, health institutions, social care homes, educational establishments, housing for migrant workers, and similar establishments.

Furthermore, the committee reviewed its forthcoming plans for field visits to correctional and rehabilitation facilities, as well as various health and social care homes. The aim is to ensure that the residents of these institutions have access to their fundamental rights as guaranteed by law. The committee underscores its commitment to continuing these visits to monitor the human rights situation, exercising the authority vested in the institution by law.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on the implementation of previous decisions and recommendations made by the committee.
